Seeing Red . . . the Life of the Unemployed

So, what do you do when you’re unemployed?  Besides the obvious looking for a job answer, I’ve found a couple of other things to occupy my time.  First, I decided to take up quilting.  Yep, you heard me.  I figured, I’ve got a sewing machine, so why not see what it can do.  As luck would have it, it turns out I’m a pretty talented seamstress.  Ok, that may be a bit of an exaggeration, but still, the quilt is looking pretty good.
This week I decided to tackle a “little” painting project.  A few weeks ago our ward had a service auction and I bought 2-3 hours of house painting from a friend of mine.  Well, we managed to stretch the 2-3 hours into 10 and the result is a newly painted wall in my bathroom, and one in my bedroom as well.
I don’t have any before pictures of my bathroom, but here is an after picture, complete with new red towels.  Sorry, it was really hard to get a good shot of it, so you’ll have to use your imagination, or come see it yourself.

This is my bedroom wall before we attacked it.  I was really hesitant to paint it, but my friend Kathryn was so excited about the prospect of painting it red that I gave in.

This is coat #2.  At this point I was a bit in shock.  It’s very red.  And at this point Kathryn confessed “It’s starting to grow on me.”  What?!?  She talked me into the red.  She helped me pick out the color.  She was the one who was all about the red, and then it comes out mid-paint job that she hasn’t been sold on it all along.  Well, there’s no turning back now.

After putting a third coat on the next day, this was the finished product.  It’s still really red, but I am liking it more and more.  After I add a couple more accessories to tone it down, I think it will be perfect.

So, I guess that’s what you do when you’re unemployed.  Not bad, eh?
